How many more of these illegal immigrants are coming into the United States each year? Once again, it depends on who you ask but a ballpark figure is about half a million. Half a million illegal immigrants coming into the United States every year! That’s well over 41,000 arriving every single month! Or about 1400 every day! So who are these masses of people who illegally invade our country every day? Where do they come from? According to the US Census Bureau, the largest group is from Central America, almost 37%, Mexico being the largest contributor there. The next largest group is from the Caribbean with about 10%. Asia contributes a full 25% of the total with South America, Europe and other regions making up the rest.
There are those who say that immigration, illegal or otherwise, is a good thing for America. The proponents of immigration maintain that immigrants actually help the American economy by working diligently and filling low-wage positions that many others find undesirable. They state that the average American citizen benefits from a healthier economy and lower prices on goods and services due to the influx of cheap labor. Then there are those who say that illegal immigration is detrimental to America’s economy, society, and standard of living. The critics state that illegal immigrants take low-skilled jobs away from American citizens. Some also contend that the average wages of Americans without a high school degree have fallen because of competition with newly arrived immigrants, who frequently work for less money.
There are those who feel that immigration is a good thing and, of course, there are those who think it’s hurting America.
Good ol' American greed by some American employers is a culprit, selling the country out for more money in their own pocket from hiring cheap illegal labor; but the problem is so deep now that an employer may not have a choice as the labor pool in certain industries has all become illegal.
ReplyDeleteOne argument is...hey...our government let them all in, now the market can only be successful with illegal labor. Now our entire residential construction market has been taken from Americans...what a damn shame, and there are many more markets. In the end, citizens pay taxes to government to protect us and organize the country. This was not done by our government who we hire. Illegal aliens can't be blamed for just wanting to work and make money.
Blame the Bush administration for not doing a damn thing and letting all of us citizens get ATTACKED by illegal aliens. ALL of our family's livlihoods have been harmed as our US economy is being robbed. This money belongs to US citizens, but illegals take the money "back home" This is half the reason our economy is historically bad and bleak, the other half is useless war teaching no one nothing and costing the other half leading to the terrible economy.
ReplyDeleteI have no problem with immigrants. America was founded on immigrants. It was NOT however, founded on ILLEGAL immigrants. While it may be true that we have a small net gain in tax revenue on the federal level from illegal immigrants who pay into SS and will never get anything back - there is a HUGE loss on the local and state level of taxes for illegals. That extra SS money the feds get is not going to miraculously end up in the hands of the County of Los Angeles or the County of San Diego where illegal immigrants create BILLIONS of dollars of tax deficit. Anyone who doesn't think Illegals get free healthcare (emergency treatment) and who doesn't think that illegals get food stamps and who doesn't think that illegals get free schooling is obviously living in a dream world. They do NOT pay into the system as much as they take out except in one area - Social Security. Believe me, if the feds weren't raking in so much coin on illegals to help prop the limping Social Security system, they would deport them all today. I just LOVE the argument that they do the jobs that others wont do. Well, guess what? Before there were so many illegal aliens who work for nothing those jobs were filled by students and unskilled americans - at MUCH HIGHER wages. All illegal immigration did is wipe out an entire viable source of income for Americans. Its true most wont work for peanuts now, but hell even I worked in the California fields in Almond and Peach orchards when I was young - along with high school kids and many others. Illegal Immigration has CAUSED the low wages, so dont even start with that argument.
ReplyDeleteWe need to enforce our immigration laws and discourage illegal immigration. The problem is them sending the money "home". that is killing the economy just as much as people getting mortgages they cant pay. Then to bleed the government of all the free services they recieve doesnt help.
ReplyDeleteI think most people get it that the illegals are a big part of the problem we are dealing with such as health care issues, prison overcrowding, and low wages. I could go on and on but most of you get the point. The one's that don't are simply blind or ignorant to what is in front of them! There should be no social services of any kind, hiring, housing and helping them in anyway to violate our laws, if so, then you go to jail along side them. Plain and simple!! See how long they stay in OUR country and continue to break our laws!
ReplyDeleteIllegals are today's slave labor source. Next year, when the Democrats focus on amnesty, all illegals will be granted citizenship and will pay taxes and work for at least minimum wage. The flow of illegals into the country will continue and will take the places of today's illegals. We will have just increased the Democrat population.
ReplyDeleteHere's a bit of info. days after Arizona passed the law that will allow authorities to ask for the papers of any person they suspect of being in the country illegally, Mexico issued a rare travel warning to its citizens. The warning states: As long as no clear criteria are defined for when, where and who the authorities will inspect, it must be assumed that every Mexican citizen may be harassed and questioned without further cause at any time. The concern of many critics of the Arizona law, and of many Mexicans, is that a person could be discriminated against based solely on his or her appearance.
ReplyDeleteArizona's law WILL lead to racial profiling. And that makes it racist and wrong. The Republicans are focussed on the supply side only. If they are serious, they should also demand punishments for employers of (cheap) illegals in addition to sealing the border. When the demand evaporates, the supply will too.
